Location: RG30 3RR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking. Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Burghfield.
Package: £49,480 - £78,200 per annum (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience). Plus role specific allowance. A relocation package may be available (terms and conditions apply).

AWE has an opportunity for a highly skilled Senior Metrology Engineer to contribute to some of the UK’s most critical and technically engaging programmes. We are looking for an expert who excels in precision measurement and enjoys working with complex geometries in fast-paced, high‐stakes environments.
Join us and play a pivotal role in supporting mission‐critical trials by programming and operating ultra‐high‐precision Co‐ordinate Measurement Machines, using the Quindos programming language and a range of advanced metrology equipment. Working within the Metrology Development team, a Senior Metrology Engineer primarily programs CMMs for critical components using Quindos and producing accurate Work Instructions. Additional tasks can include supporting new technology introduction, contributing to forward planning across metrology and inspection areas, and apprentice development.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Programming CMMs using the Quindos programming language.
- Measuring critical components using high precision CMMs and other metrology equipment.
- Managing their workload through the lab, including workflow planning and scheduling, Workload Tasking, Process sign-off and problem report management.
- Ensure equipment availability, co-ordinate maintenance and calibration.
- Ensure safe and secure operations in the Metrology laboratory.
- Manage personal 5S adherence in the laboratory.
Who Are We Looking For?
- Program CMMs and other metrology equipment using Quindos and software such as PC‐DMIS, applying Cartesian and 3D polar co‐ordinate systems.
- Run measurement programs for complex components, including program transfer and prove‐out for operational areas.
- Plan and manage workloads, ensuring timely completion of task reviews and resolution of problem reports.
- Support forward equipment planning across metrology and inspection areas, with a focus on Metrology Development.
- Maintain high laboratory standards through personal 5S activities.
