Novel oligonucleotide therapies are an area of high scientific interest in drug discovery. This start-up biotech is built on research from eminent Oxford University professors and East Coast US biotech founders. My client has surpassed their milestones and investors are committing to a substantial seed extension round.
As an innovative Molecular Biologist, you will have a unique opportunity to develop the screening platform and help uncover structure activity relationships. Working closely with the chemistry team, you will help drive drug discovery projects forward as the team look to raise Series A funding.
This is what your day to day will look like
You will develop and implement medium to high throughput assays. Specifically, you will screen oligonucleotides in relevant cell models and analyse data. To excel in this position, you will be a key contributor in growing the infrastructure and capabilities of the Platform group.
You will have a mindset to thrive in a start-up environment, where everyone manages their time accordingly. Thankfully, a real emphasis is placed on having time to recharge and decompress. The goals and urgency of developing new treatments shouldn’t mean you have to burn out!
If you have these skills, you will be a great fit for the position
- PhD in molecular biology (or similar field) and a few years in industry.
- Proven experience with cell transfection of molecules and downstream assays.
- Comfortable with DNA and RNA extraction, primer and vector design, PCR, qPCR, and reporter assays.
- Working knowledge of ELISA and Western Blotting.
- Experience working with assays in plate-based format (96-well or higher)
- Ability to use liquid handling to streamline protocols.
This would be a bonus
- Experience in working with iPSCs, patient-derived primary cells, or organ on a chip.
- Sample or library preparation for Sanger or NGS.
- Experience working with oligonucleotides.
Technical skills aside, you will be able communicate ideas clearly to the internal team and external collaborators. You will be comfortable working independently, and naturally you will get on well with your colleagues. As the company evolves, you will be happy to adapt and grow with it!
