Atomic is delighted to partner with a growing, multidiscipline accounting firm, looking for an Accountant to work remotely. Due to extensive growth and acquisitions, they are looking to recruit a Practice Accountant to manage a portfolio of external clients. They are a rapidly growing, multi-disciplinary professional services firm with subsidiaries spanning Tax, Accounting, Legal, Financial Services, Executive Recruitment, and Fractional CFO Services, delivering an integrated suite of advisory solutions to entrepreneurial businesses and private clients across the UK and internationally.
The accountant will be working with the processing team and will deliver accurate financial information using Xero and other packages. The role heavily involves the production of management reports, VAT returns and year-end financial data. Working with their team of accountants, you will be required to complete end to end accounting and corporation tax tasks for a range of SME businesses, using industry leading tools.
Responsibilities:- Maintain day-to-day client bookkeeping using Xero and working within the external bookkeepers providing support and guidance.
- Perform complex bank, control account, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Process purchase invoices, staff expenses, and manage accounts payable/receivable.
- Prepare annual statutory accounts workings for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
- Produce monthly or quarterly management accounts for review to aid client decision-making.
- Conduct analytical reviews of profit and loss statements and balance sheets.
- Prepare VAT returns for review and filing, ensuring compliance with Making Tax Digital (MTD) standards and HMRC regulations.
- Calculate and prepare personal self-assessment tax returns.
- Liaise directly with HMRC to resolve queries or issues, and collate information in response to enquiries and compliance requests.
- Work with existing client managers, and a number of clients acting as their primary point of contact for bookkeeping queries.
- Support clients in transitioning to cloud-based accounting solutions and provide software training.
- Assist clients in basic tax planning and strategic business advice for SMEs.
- Review work completed by external bookkeepers and other accounts assistants, providing constructive feedback.
- Work alongside and train external bookkeepers to ensure departmental quality standards are met.
- Report directly to the Senior Client Manager.
- At least three years' experience with a UK accounting practice.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and specialized accounting software (Xero, Dext, Apron).
- Strong knowledge of VAT.
- Ability to follow processes and to establish processes as necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with NETP clients preferred but not essential.
