Manufacturing Engineer - Preston Area

Atomic Talent is recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join their growing team in the Preston area.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically minded engineer who enjoys working across multiple departments to support manufacturing operations, improve production processes, and ensure successful project delivery.

The successful candidate will play a key role in translating engineering designs into practical manufacturing solutions while supporting production, quality, commercial, and project teams.

The Role

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of engineering projects from design through to manufacture.

Working closely with project managers, production teams, subcontractors, and customers, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on budget, and to the required quality standards.

You will analyse engineering drawings and technical specifications, develop manufacturing processes, create Bills of Materials (BOMs), and provide technical support throughout the production lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret and analyse engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

Develop and implement manufacturing methods, routings, and process instructions.

Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) within manufacturing systems.

Support manufacturing activities and provide technical assistance to production teams.

Monitor product and project quality, supporting non-conformance investigations and corrective actions.

Assist in the delivery of engineering projects to agreed timescales, budgets, and quality standards.

Manage engineering changes and support effective change control processes.

Collaborate with design, purchasing, quality, commercial, and project management teams.

Review customer specifications, quality plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and other project documentation.

Support supplier and subcontractor management, including technical queries and progress tracking.

Expedite materials, subcontracted services, and deliveries to support manufacturing schedules.

Produce project and manufacturing progress reports when required.

Attend customer and internal meetings and provide technical updates.

Identify and support continuous improvement and value engineering initiatives.

Contribute to estimating and business development activities where required.

Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience in a Manufacturing Engineer, Production Engineer, Project Engineer, or similar engineering role.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, production planning, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience creating manufacturing routings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Strong understanding of quality procedures and non-conformance management.
  • Experience working within a regulated engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and engineering/manufacturing systems.

Desirable

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience using ERP, MES, MRP, or manufacturing control systems.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, machining, assembly, or heavy engineering environments.
  • Understanding of project delivery methodologies and change control processes.
  • Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution.
