Our client is a successful manufacturer of Water Based, Solvent Free Paints and Coatings. They are now seeking a Technical Service & Development Chemist for Water Based Industrial Coatings. This position will be based at their site in Wrexham, Wales. It is a full-time permanent role and will report to their Technical Manager.
Job Purpose
The role combines laboratory product development with practical technical service. The postholder will help my client develop and improve water-based industrial coatings, investigate technical issues, prepare and manage customer samples, support product trials and provide hands-on guidance to new and existing customers. The role acts as a practical link between the laboratory, production, sales team and customer application process.
Key Responsibilities
- Product development and formulation support
- Plan and carry out laboratory development work on new and existing water-based industrial coatings under the direction of the Technical Manager.
- Prepare laboratory batches accurately and record formulations, raw-material details, methods, observations and results.
- Assess properties such as viscosity, density, gloss, colour, opacity, drying, adhesion, hardness, water resistance, sag resistance and application behaviour as appropriate to the project.
- Compare trial formulations against defined targets, existing products and customer requirements.
- Support scale-up from laboratory work to production trial batches and assist with the evaluation of manufacturing results.
