Overview

A Young Offenders Institute in Middlesex is looking for experienced and qualified Vocational Subject Teachers to help troubled young people aged 15-18.

You will be able to see beyond their behaviour and find new ways to connect and teach them.

  • Previous teaching or subject experience advantageous.
  • Relevant teaching/training qualification (FE or QTS) or prior experience in an apprenticed profession.
  • Knowledge of Bricklaying, Painting and Decorating, Motor Mechanics, Plumbing, Tiling, Carpentry, or Horticulture.
  • Familiarity with the National Adult Core Curriculum and Ofsted.
  • Experience teaching young people, ideally in mainstream, secure, or with disaffected learners.
  • Willingness to undergo child protection screening and the Disclosure Barring Service checks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver classes/activities according to the timetable.
  • Complete registers, lesson plans, and activity records.
  • Maintain systems for monitoring and evaluating classroom learning activities.
  • Create and maintain trainee record files with progress and training outcomes.
  • Perform administrative tasks including examination/accreditation entries for classes.
  • Attend staff meetings and liaise with prison personnel to provide guidance and support to trainees.
  • Undertake personal and professional development activities and assist other lecturers where possible.
  • Participate in prison procedures such as health and safety, security, and behaviour management.
