We’re Atom… The bank that’s on a mission to make finance faster, simpler and way more human. We’ve ditched the stuffy banking model to build something that actually works for our customers, whenever and wherever they need us. To make this happen, we’re looking for like-minded people who can help us reach our goals and think differently. We really value in-person collaboration and this role requires a minimum of 2 days per week in our Newcastle HQ.

Atom bank is looking for an enthusiastic, proactive, and pragmatic Legal Counsel (0–3 years PQE) to join our close-knit in-house team. This is an exceptionally broad role offering comprehensive exposure across the bank. You will advise on everything from core commercial contracts and regulatory compliance (GDPR, Open Banking, PSD2) to corporate finance, marketing approvals, customer ops, and conveyancing queries. Because we keep day-to-day drafting in-house with limited reliance on external firms outside of major transactions, you will get stuck in from day one and learn by doing. You will be part of a supportive team that values informal coaching and mentoring, providing an environment where you can develop your skills rapidly through the broad spectrum of work you’ll be involved in.

  • Commercial Contracts: Draft, negotiate, and advise on supplier, outsourcing, and software agreements - the bread and butter of our daily operations.
  • Cross-Departmental Advisory: Act as a trusted advisor to multiple departments on day-to-day legal issues, including conveyancing queries, product terms, and customer administration.
  • Regulatory Guidance: Provide clear, pragmatic legal advice on financial services regulations, Open Banking, PSD2, and data protection/GDPR.
  • Corporate & Growth Support: Assist with corporate finance, capital raising, wholesale activities, and material business transactions.
  • Governance & Secretariat: Support corporate governance processes, including shared responsibility across the team for minute-taking and supporting executive meetings.

What do we need from you?

  • Qualified Solicitor with 1-3 years PQE. We welcome applications from those making their first move from private practice or looking to expand their in-house experience.
  • Solid ground in general commercial law and contract negotiation.
  • Highly energetic, self-motivated, and eager to take ownership of a varied workload.
  • Able to translate complex legal and regulatory concepts into straightforward, actionable advice for non-legal business partners.
  • Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced digital banking environment.

What will you get from us?

  • Flexible hybrid working in Newcastle.
  • 4-day work week.
  • Discretionary cash bonus.
  • Incredibly generous company pension scheme (maximum of 13% of Atom input – candidate can put in more).
  • 22.5 days annual leave plus public holiday.
  • Private Medical Insurance, Health Cash Plan, Life Insurance & Critical illness cover.
  • £200 “All about me” fund.
  • EV Scheme.
