As our DIL Development Engineer, you'll be a driving force in the DIL (Driver-In-the-Loop) Development Team, whose mission is to deliver a world-leading Driver-in-the-Loop simulation environment. This role is a cornerstone of the team's significant recent investment in this critical area, underscored by the acquisition of a new, state-of-the-art DIL simulator. This facility is at the heart of our performance programme, essential for validating vehicle concepts, optimising driver performance, and making mission-critical decisions that directly translate to on-track success.
Responsibilities
- Push the boundaries of simulation to achieve the ultimate level of realism and correlation with our on-track reality.
- Engineer a platform that delivers flawlessly repeatable and reproducible results, providing a trusted foundation for engineering development.
- Instil a zero-downtime philosophy, predicting and eliminating any potential for lost operational time.
- Maximise the velocity of the end-to-end process, from system start-up to the delivery of actionable, data-driven insight.
- Develop robust, intuitive, and maintainable systems that empower our engineers and drivers.
- Ensure the seamless integration of the DIL platform into the team's wider data and simulation ecosystem.
- Continuously scout for emerging technologies and pioneering simulation techniques, strategically integrating innovations to maintain our competitive edge and define the future of F1 simulator.
Qualifications / Requirements
- The role requires a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics (or related field) and prior experience in Formula 1 or top-tier motorsport within vehicle dynamics, performance, or race engineering.
- You must have hands-on experience with Driver-in-the-Loop or real-time simulation systems (e.g. dSPACE, Speedgoat, Beckhoff), strong proficiency in simulation and data analysis tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and Python, and a deep understanding of vehicle dynamics, HIL systems, motion platforms, telemetry, and performance optimisation.
- Experience with rFpro and good software development practices are advantageous.
- The ideal person is a clear communicator and team player with a pragmatic, hands-on approach to problem solving.
- They are highly organised, resilient under pressure, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
