Job Description - Regulated Asset Economist
The role will act as the owner of economic models, analysis and value optimisation insights, ensuring robust, auditable and decision-quality outputs are provided to senior stakeholders and project teams.
The position will involve developing and maintaining complex economic models, including regulated asset base models, ensuring alignment with evolving policy, regulatory requirements and commercial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and own economic models to support energy transition projects, including regulated asset base economic models.
- Provide detailed economic, financial and unit cost analysis to support project commercialisation and strategic decision-making.
- Deliver deterministic and probabilistic economic analysis to assess project value, risks and opportunities.
- Provide subject matter expertise to support high-quality, timely business decisions.
- Perform discounted and undiscounted unit cost analysis, including Levelised Cost of Abatement (LCOA) assessments, to benchmark opportunities and support optimisation.
- Undertake whole-life cost assessments, Net Present Value (NPV) analysis and financial evaluations.
- Ensure economic models are accurate, transparent, robust and fully auditable to support investment cases and regulatory engagement.
- Monitor developments across the energy transition landscape, including technology, policy, regulation and investor sentiment, incorporating relevant changes into economic assessments.
- Maintain effective relationships with regulators, commercial stakeholders and external interfaces.
- Support organisational readiness for future regulatory phases, including negotiations, price controls and audits.
- Communicate complex economic analysis clearly and effectively to senior leadership teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Undertake additional duties as required to support project objectives.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in regulated asset economics, financial modelling, economic analysis or a similar commercial/economic role within the energy sector.
- Experience supporting major infrastructure, energy transition, CCS or regulated energy projects is highly desirable.
- Advanced Excel-based financial modelling and data analytics capability.
- Strong understanding of regulated asset frameworks, including incentives, penalties, allowed returns, WACC, financing structures and risk parameter modelling.
- Experience with unit cost analysis, Levelised Cost of Abatement (LCOA), whole-life cost modelling and NPV analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable commercial insights.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior leaders, regulators and multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications

- Postgraduate qualifications and/or professional accreditation (e. g., CFA, Chartered Accountant or equivalent) are advantageous.
