The Environmental Specialist will report directly to the HSE Manager/HSEQ Director with a functional report into Wells Engineering Department. The position may be required to travel offshore in support of incident investigations, regulatory inspections and leadership engagement visits.
The Environmental Specialist is responsible for the co-ordination and provision of day-to-day and medium-term environmental support for well decommissioning projects and operations and well-operatorship responsibilities.
The Environmental Specialist will be required to:
- Manage all safety and environmental related Permits, Licenses, Applications, Notification and Consents (PLANC) required for company projects, Well Decommissioning activities and potential Well Operatorship activities.
- Manage all future potential well-operatorship responsibilities associated with environmental requirements.
- Provide company support in relation to environmental aspects associated with our business needs.
- Manage all Environmental associated activities across all Well Operations, Decommissioning and Well Operator workscopes.
- Perform the role of subject matter expert in environmental matters, providing support, guidance and expertise to the Project Team and Offshore Teams to enhance and improve Environmental performance.
- Manage subcontractors involved in the delivery of PLANC requirements – where applicable.
- Manage consultancies for delivery of studies, modelling and surveys to support Environmental impact assessments.
- Develop environmental targets in collaboration with wider WSS business.
- Ensure close alignment on environmental considerations between company Well Engineering Team, Operations Team and Assurance Team.
- Engage all stakeholders in a project on implementation of relevant standards and management systems to ensure safe work practices and conditions are achieved.
- Develop strong regulatory relationships in support of our full Well Life Cycle activities including Well Operatorship.
- Ensure company compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements in all company working environments.
- Emphasise behavioral safety and control of work around key risk activities.
- Collate and report environmental data and performance for Regulatory & Corporate Reporting and Client requirements.
- Lead/support investigations that require environmental expertise.
- Provide environmental training/information to both on and offshore staff.
- Support the maintenance of a certified Safety and Environmental Management System.
- Manage waste, radioactive substances and sampling & analysis requirements for Well Operations activities.
- Provide guidance on environmental sensitivities, environmental impacts and the fate of emissions and discharges from company activities to enable Well Operations activities to ensure and demonstrate that Well-Safe is an industry leader in minimising environmental impact of decommissioning activities.
Analyses risk and focus on reducing hazards in area of expertise, sharing lessons learned. Holds those that do not comply with relevant safety standards to account.
Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of Major Accident Hazard to identify environmental consequences associated with MAH and if potential environmental consequence could result in significant pollution/MEI.
Significant experience gained from working within a Well Operator Environment.
Considerable experience with environmental licensing and permit requirements in relation to full well life cycle activities including Well Operatorship.
Experience of working directly with the regulators in relation to environmental activities.
Understanding Accident and Incident investigation principles with certified root cause analysis (RCA).
Valid OGUK Medical and BOSIET/FOET.
Environmental related qualification.
Extensive Oil and Gas and related environmental experience.
Experience training personnel one-on-one or in group environments.
