About the team

At SumUp, we’re on a mission to empower small businesses globally – while building meaningful connections between merchants and their customers. Within the Consumer Tribe, the Consumer Bank squad is at the heart of one of SumUp's most exciting growth bets – scaling SumUp Pay to an ambitious Monthly Active User target. The team designs end-to-end experiences across the full user lifecycle: from onboarding and account activation to driving engagement through features like Spaces, Open Banking insights, and budget tracking. Every design decision directly shapes whether a user becomes an active, loyal customer. We're building in a competitive neobank landscape where the bar for craft and intuitive journeys is high – and the opportunity to make a real impact is real. If you're excited about designing in a high-growth environment where your work reaches users across Europe and directly moves the needle on adoption and retention, this is the team for you.

As a Senior Product Designer working alongside other designers in this team, you’ll be embedded in a cross‑functional squad alongside Product Managers and Engineers, owning end-to-end design from discovery through delivery. Design plays a critical role here – not just in execution, but in defining the problems worth solving. The team works with a strong focus on user research, hypothesis‑driven design, and continuous iteration, ensuring that every design decision is grounded in real user needs and measurable impact. You’ll contribute to high‑impact areas of the product where thoughtful design directly influences key metrics like activation, engagement, and conversion. At the same time, you’ll help evolve our design system and ensure consistency and quality across the experience, especially as SumUp undergoes a broader brand transformation and scales its consumer offering. This is a team that values strong design thinking, autonomy, and collaboration – where designers are empowered to challenge assumptions, shape product direction, and deliver meaningful outcomes in a fast‑moving, product‑driven environment.

What you’ll do

  • Own end-to-end product design within the Consumer Bank squad, from discovery through delivery for the SumUp Pay experience
  • Lead discovery by identifying user problems, defining opportunities, and shaping hypotheses with Product and Engineering
  • Design intuitive, high‑quality mobile experiences that drive key metrics such as activation, engagement, and retention
  • Create and iterate on user journeys across the lifecycle, including onboarding and activation flows
  • Validate solutions through prototyping, user research, and usability testing
  • Use data and insights to continuously improve the product and inform design decisions
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure high‑quality implementation and scalability
  • Contribute to the design system and maintain consistency across the product

You’ll be great for this role if you have

  • Proven experience as a Senior Product Designer working on mobile‑first products, with a strong portfolio demonstrating end‑to‑end design and measurable impact
  • Strong discovery skills, including problem framing, hypothesis definition, user research, and insight synthesis
  • Excellent UX, interaction, and information design skills, with a high bar for quality and usability
  • Experience using data (qualitative and quantitative) to inform design decisions and iterate on solutions
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work autonomously with Product Managers and Engineers in cross‑functional teams
  • Solid understanding of technical constraints and how to design within them
  • Proven ability to leverage AI design tools (e.g. for ideation, prototyping, research and synthesis) to significantly accelerate workflows and elevate the quality of product outcomes
  • Proficiency in modern design tools (e.g. Figma) and experience contributing to or evolving design systems
  • A pragmatic, outcome‑driven mindset with the confidence to challenge assumptions and influence product direction
