About the Role
Atlas is hiring an exceptional Senior Managing Counsel, Employment Law (Europe) to join our high‑performing Legal & Compliance team. This is a high‑impact leadership role, supporting Atlas's rapidly scaling Employer of Record (EOR) operations in Europe. You will own and shape the employment law function and strategy for the region, ensuring compliance, mitigating risk, and delivering commercially practical solutions for both internal stakeholders and external clients. The role includes a meaningful client‑facing component, offering a rare opportunity to influence client outcomes directly, drive excellence in service delivery, and gain deep visibility into Atlas's business operations and growth strategy. You’ll partner closely with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams across Operations, Sales, and People & Culture on a wide range of employment law matters. You will also collaborate with colleagues across Legal & Compliance to set and uphold best‑in‑class global compliance standards. This position reports to the Vice President, Associate General Counsel and offers the opportunity to lead on significant and novel matters, mentor and develop talent, and work in a high‑growth, highly dynamic organization and industry.
The ideal candidate is an empathetic, hands‑on people leader with deep subject‑matter expertise, creative problem‑solving skills, and a strong sense of ownership and accountability. We are looking for someone who brings expert‑level employment law experience and sharp legal and commercial instincts—balanced with approachability, emotional intelligence, and the credibility to inspire confidence at every level of the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Provide timely, pragmatic, and solutions‑oriented advice to internal teams and senior management across the full spectrum of employment matters, including employment agreements, leaves and accommodations, working time, expenses, and terminations.
- Draft, review, and continuously improve employment law documentation, including employment agreements, mutual separation/exit agreements, and agreements transferring employment.
- Monitor, interpret, and track employment law developments across Europe, including upcoming legal and regulatory requirements and collective bargaining obligations, and proactively translate these developments into clear guidance for internal stakeholders for ongoing operations.
- Strategically and cost‑effectively manage and partner with external counsel in employee litigation matters.
- Partner with internal teams to design and deliver impactful legal training on key employment law topics for internal stakeholders and client‑facing teams.
- Mentor, guide, and inspire Legal & Compliance team members—sharing expertise, developing future leaders, and fostering a culture of collaboration and learning.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior executives, contributing to strategic decision‑making.
- Lead, learn from, and help shape an exceptional team of lawyers and legal professionals.
What We’re Looking For
- 8+ years of relevant experience practicing employment law, preferably at a regional/international level, including significant in‑house experience at a global organization.
- Strong knowledge of and experience of advising on, supported by best practice guidance, all employment laws and regulations in Europe including the EU Acquired Rights Directive, EU Working Time Directive, and all applicable gender pay equality reporting and transparency requirements at a national and regional level.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Experience leading teams and developing talent, preferably across multiple geographies.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to quickly identify risks and distill complex legal concepts into clear, actionable advice.
- A positive attitude, sound judgment, sense of humor, and a genuine commitment to relationship building and collective success.
- Familiarity with data privacy and protection, health and safety, and corporate governance is a bonus, but not required.
