A production technician with at least 3 years experience in a multi-disciplined manufacturing/production environment. Experience working with resins/polymers/polyurethanes to tight tolerances is advantageous. Experience in milling/machining is beneficial but not essential. Knowledge of production techniques including lean manufacturing. Practical experience of soldering/de-soldering, preferably to IPC J-STD-001, and PCB assembly/rework is an advantage but not essential. Understanding of production control documentation and traceability principles. Ability to trace faults in end products and identify production inefficiencies. Knowledge of ISO 9000 requirements in a production setting.
Responsibilities include reporting to the Team Leader, the Operator will be responsible for various production tasks within the sonar transducer section, including manufacturing and testing products, supporting process and tooling implementation, and ensuring quality and traceability. Specific duties include:
- Assisting in production and testing of 1-3 piezo-composite transducer products using various techniques and equipment.
- Interpreting test results and acting accordingly.
- Understanding technical drawings, assembly procedures, and test specifications.
- Communicating errors and improvements to engineers and team leaders.
- Using hand tools for mechanical and electrical operations.
- Adhering to control processes to ensure product conformity.
- Supporting prototyping and first build activities, preparing products for transfer to production.
- Completing paperwork for quality and contractual compliance, ensuring traceability.
- Reporting manufacturing issues and suggesting process improvements.
Additional responsibilities include working within a lean manufacturing environment, maintaining high housekeeping standards, following ESD and environmental, health & safety procedures, and participating in training for manufacturing operations.
Challenges include meeting tight timescales and delivering quality products on time and within budget, adapting to different products and working conditions, and working overtime or shifts if required.
