Your role as the Head of Systems Architecture & Integration within the Semiconductor Division (SUN) at Edwards is to be accountable for driving end-to-end technical alignment across the abatement portfolio, ensuring that R&D roadmaps, architectures, and integration strategies translate into coherent, executable, and value-driven outcomes across programmes.

In this role you will:

  • Own the development, alignment, and maintenance of a single integrated R&D roadmap (12–36 months) across platforms, subsystems, controls, and software.
  • Define and drive adoption of target architectures, standard interfaces, and modularity strategies, balancing commonality vs differentiation.
  • Act as the technical integrator across programmes, ensuring roadmap intent is consistently translated into programme execution.
  • Identify and resolve cross-company conflicts, duplication, and gaps, driving outcomes through prioritisation and escalation where required.
  • Lead early-stage integration planning, ensuring interface definitions, dependencies, and system-level risks are understood before programme maturity (pre-G3/G5).
  • Establish and govern technical standards (interfaces, comms, safety architecture, diagnostics, data models) to enable reuse and interoperability.
  • Facilitate and lead system-level trade-offs (performance, cost, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, sustainability).
  • Create and drive cross-functional working groups / tiger teams to deliver integrated solutions and resolve critical issues.
  • Translate customer, regulatory, and service requirements into clear, aligned technical direction across all participating organisations.
  • Provide clear, decision-ready outputs to leadership (options, trade-offs, recommendations) and drive decisions to closure.

This position will report to VP, Engineering - Abatement & Systems.

To succeed, you will need:

We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every single requirement. We value diverse experiences and perspectives and are excited to see what you bring to the role.

Education: Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Systems or similar); Master’s preferred.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Strong experience in semiconductor equipment or complex engineered systems.
  • Proven track record in cross-functional or multi-organisation technical leadership.
  • Experience delivering or governing R&D roadmaps and system architectures.
  • Deep understanding of system integration challenges, interface definition and dependency management, NPI / stage-gate processes and failure modes.
  • Experience working across global engineering teams and matrix organisations.
  • Strong appreciation of commercial drivers.

Skills:

  • Strong influencing and constructive challenge capability at senior levels.
  • Ability to drive alignment and decisions in ambiguous environments.
  • Excellent structured problem-solving and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex technical topics into clear executive communication.
