Job Summary
As a Fastener Development CNC Machinist, you will be an integral component within the product development team, utilizing the R&D lab machining cell to rapidly develop and manufacture a range of new and innovative prototype fasteners for automotive joining applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Fastener Technology Group product development team to develop and manufacture new and innovative prototype fasteners.
- Be competent in the safe use of specialist laboratory equipment, testing equipment, and production equipment, e.g., CNC lathes, manual lathes, manual milling machines, and destructive test equipment.
- Safely use chemicals and chemical handling equipment both in the lab and production areas, following MSDS and COSHH requirements for hazardous chemicals.
- Collaborate with other departments and work within cross-functional teams to support the development and implementation of new fastener designs and contribute to research and business objectives.
- Identify suitable training courses and actively seek Continuing Professional Development activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completed Apprenticeship or NVQs in CNC and manual machining or equivalent experience.
- 5 GCSEs including English, Maths, and Science, Grade C+.
Experience
- 3+ years\’ experience as a machinist using CNC & manual turning/milling machines.
- Knowledge of manufacturing/production processes.
- Experience using quality and inspection equipment to verify part conformity.
- The ability to use, repair, and maintain machines and tools.
- Able to understand and interpret engineering/manufacturing drawings.
- Competent computer skills – including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email.
Desirable Skills
- Awareness of ISO9001 or IATF16949 or similar Quality Management Systems.
- Manufacturing of small precision components.
- Programming using Fanuc programming language.
- Operating and programming sliding head lathes.
- Specifying and procuring suitable cutting tools.
- Experience using CAD packages; Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar.
- Experience using CAM packages.
