Role Overview
As a Principal Electrical Engineer, your mission is to play a crucial technical leadership role within an organisation. They are technical leaders who combine technical expertise with strategic thinking. They drive innovation, manage projects, and guide engineering teams toward excellence. Principal Engineers are extensively experienced Engineers, that can see the bigger picture as well as being capable of diving into the detail of complex engineering challenges. They’re amply capable of applying a working knowledge of engineering, science, and systems thinking to support unique and essential engineering projects at the heart of the semi‑conductor fabrication industry. You will report to the Electrical Controls & Instrumentation Manager.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and be accountable for the design, development and maintenance of modules/sub‑assemblies for current/new/customised products in accordance with Edwards’ Product Commercialisation Process and Engineering Change Process.
- Define the Engineering Specification targets and ensure conformance to the relevant international, national and industry safety standards.
- Approve and be accountable for the verification of designs and ensure they conform to the relevant design standards and safety reviews.
- Manage the design and development of sub‑assemblies of a product ensuring the specified quality and cost are achieved to the agreed project time scale.
- Accountable for the on‑time delivery of detailed documentation of project deliverables.
Qualifications
- An Electrical Engineering Degree (minimum 2:1) or other relevant engineering qualification with 8+ years industry design experience – Essential.
- Accreditations and/or formal qualifications in Functional Safety – Essential.
Experience
- Design for manufacture, design for assembly and maintenance – Essential.
- Understanding of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and system schematics – Essential.
- Application of safety‑rated control systems – SIL ratings, EN61508, EN13849, EN61511 – Essential.
Skills
- Experience using electrical CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical, and/or other drafting tools) – Essential.
