The Manufacturing Engineer is based at the GTC working in the Prototype Machine Cell in a team of skilled Manufacturing Engineers responsible for delivering Technology Demonstrator (TD) components from initial design through to final inspection. The role focuses on producing high-quality components efficiently, using cost-effective methods that minimize lead times and environmental impact. You will be working with a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to prepare CNC programmes and be responsible for setting up and proving out high tolerance components on CNC machines.

The Manufacturing Engineer must work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Collaboration with professionals in Design, Maintenance, and Health & Safety is essential, as is a proactive, analytical, and creative approach to problem-solving. They are responsible for planning and prioritizing tasks in coordination with engineers and are accountable for ensuring timely and effective delivery

Main Responsibilities:

• Maintain Health & Safety standards in the facility by showing visible leadership on safety, comply with all site safety standards & protocols. Operate machines, tools and equipment safely at all times.

• Deliver an efficient and valued service to our customers (engineers/project teams). Programme, set, run, and inspect machined components to required drawings and specifications to ensure precision components meet quality and technical standards.

• Manage and prioritise assigned tasks, communicate progress (at meetings or directly with engineers) clearly and concisely to determine next steps and agree timescales.

• Engage in 5S process, identify and implement continuous improvement ideas to develop the working environment, processes and methods to reduce lead times and waste.

• Follow routine maintenance and risk prevention procedures, take responsibility for simple TPM tasks.

• Work flexibly when necessary to meet project timescales

• Support the Senior Procurement Leader in the manufacture of parts

Skills and Knowledge:

• Apprentice trained time served CNC professional or equivalent plus 5 years relevant post.

• Extensive knowledge of modern and advanced machining and tooling, methods and techniques

• Skilled in the programming, setting and operating of Millturn, HMC and VMC Machines.

• In depth understanding of CNC programming and machine operations.

• Some knowledge of CAD/CAM

• Experienced in the manufacture of high precision components. From cradle to grave.

• Skilled in the use of manually operated workshop machines to modify and create specialist components and fixtures.

• Skilled in the operation of CMM & manual inspection methods

• A full understanding of health and safety and the ability to work safely.

• Skilled at managing, organising own workload and priorities and communicating effectively both verbally and in writing
