As a Joining Solutions Technician within the Fastening Technology Group, you will play a pivotal role in testing and evaluating cutting-edge joining technologies for both internal R&D and external customer projects. You will push the boundaries of innovation, delivering exceptional technical solutions that exceed customer expectations and drive industry-leading advancements in fastening technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Test and evaluate joining technologies like Self-Pierce Riveting, Flow Drill Fastening, and Adhesive Dispensing for innovative material applications.
- Develop optimized joining solutions by comparing key parameters for customer and R&D projects.
- Provide data-driven reports to engineers and management, highlighting challenges and proposing solutions.
- Produce high-quality documentation, including lab reports, customer reports, and process instructions.
- Ensure accurate and reliable reporting of joining results for internal and external stakeholders.
- Work cross-functionally with engineers, suppliers, and customers to support business goals.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient lab environment, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and quality standards.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and support lean engineering.
Other Duties
- Safely operate lab equipment and handle chemicals per MSDS and COSHH guidelines.
- Follow environmental policies to prevent spills and ensure compliance.
- Travel nationally and internationally as needed to support business needs.
- Take on additional tasks as required, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach.
Qualifications
- BTEC ONC, NVQ, or equivalent in engineering (mechanical, materials, process, or manufacturing) or relevant practical experience.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths, and Science.
- Strong practical skills – able to operate power tools and laboratory testing equipment.
- Clear communication – able to present plans and results concisely.
- Experience working in a dynamic environment with good time management and organization.
- IT proficient – basic skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and project management tools.
- Experience working in a technical team and organizing own workload.
- Experience planning and delivering projects independently or in a small team.
- Knowledge of material science (alloys, steels, composites).
- Experience using automated or manual machining equipment.
- Background in high-precision, high-throughput industries (automotive, medical, aerospace).
- Knowledge of instrumentation and analytics.
