One of the largest trusts in Essex is looking for a specialized Band 7 Occupational Therapist to work in the established Critical Care & Respiratory Rehabilitation team. The Trust provides acute services to the surrounding region and only works on Direct Engagement Mode of payment.

The successful candidate has the chance to experience a wide range of complex conditions to enhance clinical experience within neurology and acute medicine specialties. You will manage the clinical caseload on critical care, demonstrating advanced clinical reasoning to assess and formulate intervention and treatment plans, whilst providing clinical supervision and support to Band 5 and 6 Occupational Therapists on the respiratory unit.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, coordinating, and evaluating the Occupational Therapy Service provided on a day-to-day basis.
  • Undertaking a significant clinical caseload to a high professional standard, using specialist knowledge and skills from theoretical and practical experience.
  • Supervising, educating, and assessing Band 6 Occupational Therapists and overseeing the supervision and education of junior support staff and student Occupational Therapists.
  • Leading evidence-based audit and research projects to develop and enhance personal and team clinical practice; making recommendations to Clinical Lead / Head of Service for changes to practice by the team; implementing specific changes to practice; writing and/or contributing to service protocols.
  • Conducting comprehensive/standardised Occupational Therapy assessments addressing occupational performance and skill deficits in the areas of self-maintenance, productivity, and leisure.
  • Managing and accepting clinical responsibility for a caseload of patients, demonstrating the ability to prioritise and delegate work to assistants when appropriate.
  • Working as an autonomous Occupational Therapist, being aware of the needs of others within the team.
  • Undertaking assessments of patients' home environment and social situation to advise and implement provision of equipment and adaptations to gain maximal independence.
  • Supervising, teaching, and evaluating junior and senior staff, assistants, and students.
  • Communicating effectively through written, verbal, non-verbal, and listening skills.
  • Demonstrating effective and assertive behaviour in confrontational and moderately complex situations.
  • Ensuring that Occupational Therapy treatment is based on theoretical knowledge and clinical reasoning skills used to justify intervention and support own practice in routine situations.
  • Adhering to HCPC regulations and the Royal College of Occupational Therapy professional code of conduct.
  • Acting in accordance with Staff Values and Behaviours.
  • Demonstrating CPD through participation in internal and external development opportunities, recording learning outcomes in a portfolio.
  • Implementing Trust and Departmental Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintaining stock and using equipment and resources in a professional way.
  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with Occupational Therapists standards of practice.

Requirements:

  • HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Experience working in an acute hospital setting is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience of working in a critical care or respiratory unit.
  • Experience of working as a Band 6 OT.
  • Experience of MDT working.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development.
