We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Band 5 Occupational Therapist with inpatient experience to join one of the leading NHS Trusts in North West England. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a senior role and make a significant impact on patient care within a hospital setting.

Job Description:

  • To provide occupational therapy (OT) support to service users who have a learning disability.
  • The post holder will work across a variety of community settings to deliver occupational therapy assessment, intervention and review to individuals who may have complex presentations.
  • With support from senior therapy colleagues, participate in research and development activity and contribute to the overall development of learning disability services.
  • To provide specialised OT assessment of individuals with learning disabilities referred to the service who may have complex needs which may include additional mental health problems, autism and/or challenging behaviours.
  • To participate in capacity assessments alongside members of the MDT.
  • Requires good working knowledge of Mental Capacity Act and use of appropriate Mental Capacity Act (MCA) documentation.
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of OT interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, contributing to MDT and assessment.
  • To manage a clinical caseload with supervision from a senior OT colleague, whilst retaining professional responsibility for assessment, intervention and discharge.
  • To provide specialist OT advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to an individual's intervention plan.
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individuals and to provide advice to other professionals on therapy aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
  • To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, keeping individuals and their representatives (where appropriate) informed, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Previous experience working within the NHS or an equivalent health care setting.
  • Strong ability to manage a specialised caseload independently.
  • Excellent communication skills for patient interaction and collaboration with colleagues.
