Position Summary: The Dual Language Immersion Teacher is responsible for providing instruction in Spanish and English to students, developing their ability to effectively perform courses of study in both languages. Responsibilities include supervising students, developing lesson plans, delivering group and individual instruction, collaborating with other teachers and staff, and responding to inquiries from parents or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress. This position reports to the school principal.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Instructs students through lectures, discussions, visual aids, and other effective teaching methods for comprehension.
  • Prepares lessons and outlines that effectively cover the material.
  • Administers various types of assessments to monitor student performance and behaviour.
  • Attends faculty meetings and training sessions.
  • Provides face-to-face instruction to students.
  • Can provide instruction simultaneously to in-person and remote learners if necessary.
  • Responsive to changing school and district instructional needs.

Certification: Minimum of SRT4-Certification in Early Childhood Education or related field (P-5); OR passed the GACE in Early Childhood Education. Teachers must demonstrate advanced or native proficiency in Spanish and must be certified in Spanish.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
  • Administer and/or support state and local testing processes and policies.
  • Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other materials to supplement presentations.
  • Assist students needing extra help with tutoring.
  • Guide and counsel students with adjustment or academic problems.
  • Responsible for daily classroom clean-up and sanitation standards.
  • Monitor students in the classroom and throughout the school.
  • Observe and evaluate students' performance, behaviour, social development, and physical health.
  • Perform various administrative duties such as taking attendance and responding to communications from parents and staff.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and administrators to develop, evaluate, and revise academic programs.
  • Coordinate in-person conferences with parents and guardians.
  • Attend faculty meetings, teacher training workshops, and educational conferences.
  • Maintain accurate student records as required by laws and district policies.
  • Assist with the safe transition of students between locations.
  • Train volunteers in-person.
  • Maintain prompt, regular attendance and be available to work on-site during business hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator.
