Role Description


This is a full-time, on-site HGV Technician role based in Derby. The HGV Technician will carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and inspections on heavy goods vehicles and trailers to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with regulatory standards. Day-to-day tasks include diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, completing repairs, preparing vehicles for MOT tests, and maintaining accurate service records. The role also involves working closely with the transport and operations teams to prioritize workloads, minimize vehicle downtime, and support safe, efficient fleet performance. The technician is expected to follow all health and safety procedures, use workshop tools and equipment responsibly, and contribute to a clean, organized working environment.


Qualifications



  • Strong HGV maintenance and repair skills, including experience with diagnostics, servicing, and inspections of heavy goods vehicles and trailers.

  • Solid understanding of vehicle safety standards, MOT requirements, and relevant transport regulations.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service schedules, and maintenance documentation.
  • Competence in using workshop tools, diagnostic equipment, and basic IT systems for recording work.

  • Relevant vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ/City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent) is highly beneficial.

  • HGV driving license (Class 1 or 2) is an advantage but not essential.

  • Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safe working practices.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team, communicate clearly with colleagues, and manage time and workload in a busy workshop environment.
