Asset management is one of Atkins priorities for growth, and we are seeking a Structures Asset Management Engineer to support our existing portfolio of projects and provide capacity to grow the business and support future opportunities. The person we're seeking to employ will enjoy contributing across a portfolio of consultancy projects and will thrive in a busy, innovative and challenging environment. You'll be technically excellent, whatever your level of experience and will be equally happy presenting to a client or developing technical details back at the office.
The role will involve providing strategic direction to clients in defining and implementing their asset management policies, using data and analysis tools to develop works programmes at the tactical level. The focus of the role will be project delivery, with some support activities including project bidding. In addition, there will be opportunities to manage your own projects as part of your role. We also advise clients on the implementation of national guidance and best practice, such as the uptake of risk‑based approaches to asset management.
Responsibilities- Analyse structural assets using condition and inspection data, including Bridge Condition Indicators, inspection reports and related datasets.
- Support projects focused on material performance, deterioration, and degradation in structures.
- Use and help develop deterioration models and curves to inform whole‑life asset management and investment decisions.
- Interpret client data, identify trends, draw conclusions and provide clear, evidence‑based advice.
- Review and validate asset data to ensure analyses and recommendations are based on robust information.
- Use coding or programming skills, where relevant, to support data analysis and improve analytical workflows.
- Contribute to the development of asset management approaches for structures and, where relevant, other transport infrastructure assets.
- Develop practical knowledge of relevant standards and guidance, including DMRB, as applied to structural asset management.
- Prepare clear, concise client outputs, including technical reports, business cases, presentations and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers, asset managers and other disciplines to develop practical, deliverable solutions.
- Support project delivery to agreed timescales, quality standards and client requirements.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of analytical methods, tools and approaches across the team.
- A STEM degree e.g., Civil Engineering, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Early career to mid stages of a career in civil engineering, asset management, data analysis or a related field.
- A strong interest in infrastructure asset management, civil engineering and whole‑life infrastructure planning.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret data and develop practical recommendations.
- An understanding of asset management principles and asset modelling; awareness of ISO 55001 would be beneficial.
- Awareness of relevant UK standards and guidance, including DMRB, and an interest in developing further knowledge in this area.
- Experience in a consultant, contractor or infrastructure‑related environment would be advantageous.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and professionally.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A proactive and curious approach to learning, problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Experience with coding or data analysis tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, Excel, Power BI or similar would be advantageous.
- Working towards, or an interest in working towards, professional chartership with a relevant institution would be beneficial.
