Supports the delivery of ITS/Technology design activities across the M25 network. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the role involves assisting with the development, review, and coordination of design solutions for a range of roadside technology assets. Will contribute to safe, cost‑effective, and compliant designs while developing professional engineering skills, technical knowledge, and experience of the full project lifecycle. The role includes structured mentoring, on‑the‑job learning, and opportunities for progression toward professional accreditation.
Your role:
- Assist in the preparation of ITS/Technology designs for assets such as CCTV, signals, VMS, ERT, and MIDAS, under supervision from senior engineers.
- Contribute to the production of drawings, documents, and technical reports.
- Support senior engineers during design reviews to ensure completeness and compliance with standards.
- Participate in optioneering and feasibility activities, including data gathering and basic assessment work.
- Help compile design briefs, technical inputs, and documentation for design suppliers.
- Assist in monitoring progress against programme and budget, providing updates to senior engineers and project managers.
- Support liaison with internal teams and help gather information required for design stages.
- Help collate and prepare technical submissions for the Review Process in accordance with the DBFO contract.
- Contribute to quality assurance activities and ensure documentation follows CPS standards and procedures.
- Participate in site visits, surveys, and inspections to support design development (training provided).
- Assist in capturing lessons learned and contribute ideas for innovation and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with CDM requirements by supporting senior engineers with Designer's duties.
- Support the delivery of the business' sustainability objectives through responsible design practice.
About you:
- Essential: Relevant vocational qualification (e.g., BEng/BSc/HNC/HND in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, or similar).
- Interest in pursuing professional registration (IET, IHE or similar).
- Basic understanding or academic exposure to ITS/Technology systems and principles.
- Awareness of engineering standards and an interest in learning DMRB, MCHW, and related design guidance.
- Good IT and Microsoft Office skills.
- Willingness to learn, develop and work within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Good to have:
- Knowledge of electrical or technology equipment (CCTV, signals, VMS, etc.).
- Awareness of the 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations.
- Understanding of communication networks or cyber security principles.
- Knowledge of CDM and other H.
