If so, you might enjoy solving the energy industry’s most important conundrums across a variety of clients. You could be designing test rigs in support of the development of the UK’s nuclear fusion capabilities, carrying out structural integrity assessment of primary plant to keep existing fleet generating, supporting the UK Submarine and SMR programmes, or enabling one of many renewable energy projects across a growing carbon net zero portfolio. You’re likely to be juggling several projects simultaneously, so enjoying being adaptable is a must! The constant in this role is the complex nature of the jobs and the chance to provide innovative solutions to a range of problems for several appreciative clients.
Whichever energy-related projects you get involved in, you’ll be engaged in the development of engineering solutions to the industry’s most challenging problems, so you’ll be making an important and rewarding contribution to the energy and environmental security of the UK and beyond.
If you are a self-starter who can deliver multiple projects at the same time, working closely with clients and internal teams to capture requirements, set up projects and deliver right-first-time solutions for the most challenging problems in the energy industry, then we’d love you to apply.
Role requirements:

Essential criteria:
- Degree qualified mechanical engineer (or other relevant qualification).
- Experience in carrying out design or substantiation for new mechanical equipment or existing plant.
- Experience in writing accurate, detailed, and concise technical reports (e.g., technical specifications, basis of design, design substantiations, technical safety case references).
- Comfortable with engaging with existing and prospective clients, working at their sites, and investing time in understanding their issues, goals, and processes.
- As a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will have experience in technical leadership and delivery accountability for mechanical engineering solutions.
Please flag if you have experience in any of the following (but still apply if you might enjoy gaining that experience too):
- Design and substantiation of mechanical handling systems using design codes such as BS EN13001, BS 2573 or ASME B30.
- Design and substantiation of bespoke remotely operated equipment for inspection or maintenance of plant.
- Design and substantiation of mechanical structures, platforms, rigs, heat shields, etc.
- Structural integrity assessment of mechanical equipment including elements such as fatigue, defect tolerance and high temperature assessment.
- CE / UKCA marking of machinery and production of technical file documents.
- Design for Manufacture.
- Systematic identification and mitigation of hazards.
- Authoring engineering calculations using software such as Mathcad.

- Working, or authoring bids, within a safety critical and heavily regulated environment.
- Defining the technical approach to unique single and multi-disciplinary projects.
- Or if you are chartered with a relevant professional institute (or approaching application for registration).
