Senior Fire Engineer

We are looking to appoint a Fire Engineer who can further develop their career within a forward‑thinking, multi‑sector practice. The role involves working as part of a national practice of design professionals delivering fire engineering design solutions across a wide variety of sectors, including Cities & Development, Commercial, Energy, Residential and Transportation.
There is flexibility around where the role is based. While most of our current Fire Engineering team are based in Derby and London, we are growing teams in the North and South West. Preferred UK locations: Bristol, Epsom, Glasgow, London or Derby.
As a Fire Engineer you will manage your own projects and work collaboratively with team members to develop technical capability.
Responsibilities
- Work in a range of sectors from residential buildings through to rail transportation or new energy facilities.
- Manage multiple engineering projects from inception to delivery in support of fire safety standards and codes.
- Support the delivery of project work within time and cost budgets.
- Keep up to date with regulations and legislation.
- Develop fire engineering solutions and ensure the strategy is delivered.
- Assess fire‑related risks in projects and collaborate to mitigate where possible.
- Review and comment on the quality of fire safety installations.
- Undertake tenders for new work.
- Prepare reports, take part in design team meetings and liaise with client representatives as required.
Requirements
- Engineering degree, preferably in fire engineering, or alternatively a postgraduate qualification in fire engineering (applicants with different backgrounds are also considered).
- Demonstrate a strong record of successfully delivering fire safety projects – experience in other sectors is strongly considered.
- Experience with fire standards including BS9999, NFPA 130, BS9992, EN45545 is beneficial.
- Fire modelling experience is beneficial.
- Experience outside the building sector would be advantageous.
- Able to work towards Chartered Fire Engineer status.
- Flexible approach to the working environment.
- Willingness to travel is a positive advantage.
- Good commercial awareness.
- Customer focused.
- Ability to collate information and have a clear, structured approach to report writing.

Security Clearance
This role may require security clearance. Offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If necessary, it will be discussed at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK for 5 years or longer.
