This role is that of a Project Engineer / Senior Project Engineer, with project and line management reporting to an Engineering Manager. With project engineering teams based in London, Glasgow, York, Birmingham, Derby, we offer flexibility in location.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting the engineering lead for projects and leading the engineering for packages of work.
- Aligning to and promoting the safety and engineering culture for the project.
- Preparing for and supporting / running inter‑disciplinary design reviews.
- Preparing Engineering Management Plans, contributing to risk assessments and writing technical reports.
- Producing / managing materials lists.
- Liaising with client engineers.
- Co‑ordination and supervision of multi‑disciplinary design and construction teams.
- Resolving engineering issues both on site and with design teams.
- Assisting in the preparation of estimates and tender documentation.
- Creating and managing trackers / registers for engineering deliverables.
- Producing / collating O&M manuals and H&S files.
- Supporting design, test, construction, project management and sub‑contract management as required.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in signalling design, construction, testing, and maintenance.
- Possess an HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent technical qualification, preferably in electrical or electronic engineering, with a strong willingness to continue learning.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members across multiple office locations.
- Demonstrates a positive, proactive, and flexible "can-do" attitude.
- Capable of working both independently and as part of a team, with strong self‑motivation.
- Physically fit and qualified to work trackside, including holding a valid PTS certification.
- Able to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks efficiently to meet project demands, and hold applicable IRSE Licence(s).
- Experience of managing and coordinating works on site.
- Understanding of risk management, CDM and CSM.
- Knowledge of level crossings.
- Undertaken a railway signalling training scheme (e.g. apprenticeship / graduate programme).
