Join AtkinsRéalis Networks & Drainage Solutions Practice in Scotland to provide drainage design services to Water and Local Authority markets. We are looking for a Principal Drainage Engineer to strengthen our teams in Glasgow or Edinburgh.
Overview
We need a strong collaborator who can support local teams and deliver on remote projects as part of our national practice. The role involves a broad range of drainage design schemes for Council and Water Company projects, with a strong emphasis on flooding, environmental improvement and SuDS. You will also support the leadership and development of our drainage capability.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of drainage schemes from concept to detailed design, on stand-alone projects or as part of larger multidisciplinary schemes.
- Promote development of digital solutions in drainage design.
- Oversee and review the production of drainage designs, models, calculations and drawings to relevant standards, providing technical assurance.
- Determine and assign drainage design tasks and manage delivery to programme and budget.
- Lead and encourage the technical development of apprentices, graduate and assistant engineers in the drainage discipline.
- Ensure compliance with business management standards set in the company’s quality, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Manage and develop client and stakeholder relationships to support the drainage design and consents process, helping to secure repeat work.
- Support the local drainage discipline to develop and enhance the local team’s design capability.
- Lead drainage designs, manage interfaces and provide technical assurance for designs produced in the Global Design Centre.
- Champion the role of drainage within multidisciplinary projects.
- Provide technical input to bids, including quality submission responses, price proposals and risk assessment.
Qualifications
- Ideally professionally qualified with the ICE, CIWEM or similar.
- Ability to design all aspects of drainage from conceptual layout to detailed design.
- Familiarity with hydraulic design software, 3D design tools and BIM.
- Ability to prepare reports and specifications and collect data for progress and technical reports.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams, managing packages to completion.
- Capability to manage project scopes, budgets, programmes and quality of deliverables.
- Strong leadership qualities and a flexible, proactive mindset.
- Mentoring experience for less-experienced team members.
- Experience with both private and public sector clients, understanding different procurement approaches.
