Our collaborative and multi-disciplinary team is one of the largest in the UK, providing water and wastewater infrastructure services alongside drainage design, SuDS and surface water management. Our wide variety of clients span across the UK and internationally and include water companies, local authorities, highways/rail authorities, and developers. It's an exciting time to be working for our UK Water business with unprecedented investment in the water industry.
Due to continued growth in the workload of our successful Water business, we seek to recruit Wastewater Hydraulic Modeller across our UK offices to support our service delivery and client requirements. Our teams work flexibly, and all the UK offices listed under this vacancy are potential home offices for these opportunities.
Your Role
- Develop InfoWorks ICM computer models to investigate wastewater network issues, identify investment needs, and plan solutions to address these requirements.
- Analyse datasets to support modelling, option development, and decision-making.
- Support the development of engineering solutions and provide expert guidance to clients to help them make informed asset investment decisions.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports and other project deliverables.
- Prepare and adhere to health and safety risk assessments.
- Support the preparation of tender responses and fee estimates (at higher grades).
- Supervise, mentor, and develop staff, providing guidance to support their professional development (at higher grades).
- Contribute to technical innovation within the team.
About You
You will bring proven experience in urban drainage modelling using InfoWorks ICM, ideally gained within the UK regulated water industry. We welcome applicants at all experience levels—appointments will be made based on merit and aligned to individual expertise. You will be proficient in GIS platforms such as ArcGIS or MapInfo. A background in civil engineering or experience working with engineered solutions is desirable. You will play a key role in delivering ICM modelling and solution-development expertise to support clients' environmental improvement projects, particularly relating to storm overflows. The role may involve site visits and regular liaison with clients, contractors, stakeholders, and other professional bodies. Typical outputs will include concise technical reports summarising methodologies, approaches taken, and key findings from your investigations.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience in model build and verification, hydraulic and water quality analysis, catchment planning, Drainage and Wastewater Management Planning (DWMP), solution development, and technical leadership.
- A proven track record of coordinating and delivering technically robust projects.
- Strong peer-review skills, with the ability to check the work of others, ensure quality assurance, and drive continuous improvement in client deliverables.
- Experience implementing industry-leading approaches and developing innovative technical solutions.
- Experience managing or technically supervising a team of wastewater modellers.
- Experience overseeing report writing, as well as reviewing and validating technical outputs.
Desirable Qualifications
- BSc/MSc/BEng/MEng in Engineering, Hydrology, Geography/Geospatial sciences, Environmental Sciences, or closely related discipline.
- Professional qualifications, such as CIWEM or ICE Chartership, would be advantageous for senior roles.
