Are you a Mechanical Engineer with experience in Mechanical Handling, Remote Operations, or robotics, who enjoys solving complex problems? Do you thrive on challenging design projects and aspire to leadership roles guiding junior engineers?

If so, you might enjoy tackling the energy industry’s key mechanical handling challenges across various clients. Your work could involve designing systems for radioactive waste packaging, fuel handling in nuclear reactors, maintenance for fusion reactors, supporting UK submarine and SMR programmes, or renewable energy projects. You will likely manage multiple projects simultaneously, so adaptability is essential. The role involves providing innovative solutions to complex problems for diverse clients, often deploying collaborative robotics to enhance safety and efficiency.

Role requirements:

You will work within small to medium teams, benefiting from collective experience and driving innovation. You’ll work in a collaborative environment at least half of your week and bring commercial awareness to deliver tasks effectively across multiple workstreams, adhering to time, quality, and budget constraints. Your mechanical handling expertise may also be applied to non-mechanical handling projects within the nuclear sector.

  • Degree qualified mechanical engineer or relevant qualification.
  • Experience designing and supporting mechanical handling or robotic systems and equipment.
  • Proficiency in writing detailed technical reports and specifications.
  • Ability to engage with clients, understand their issues and goals, and work at their sites.
  • Experience in regulated engineering environments following QA processes.

Additional experience that is a plus:

  • Nuclear industry experience.
  • Design and implementation of mechanical handling equipment like cranes, hoists, and conveyers.
  • Automation or robotic technology experience.
  • Experience with safety-critical bids and regulations.
  • Knowledge of design codes (e.g., BS EN13001, BS 2573, ASME B30).
  • Familiarity with CE/UKCA marking, LOLER, Machinery Directive.
  • CAD skills, especially Autodesk Inventor.
  • Proficiency in hand calculations using tools like MATHCAD.
  • Chartered status or nearing registration with a professional institute.
