Our Safety and Operations Assurance Group brings together a diverse range of expertise in safety, standards, systems and the operation of highways. We use this expertise to plan for the safe and efficient operation of changes to the highway whether they be complex infrastructure projects, process changes or the introduction of operational technology. We support clients in embedding effective safety governance, safety risk management and assurance processes throughout the lifecycle of infrastructure and services. By combining technical knowledge with practical experience, we help organisations improve safety outcomes, enhance performance and deliver resilient solutions. We also contribute to the development of standards, policy, guidance and innovative approaches.

Your role

We are seeking Consultants across multiple grades with a strong technical capability in safety and operations, alongside an ability to support client engagement and business growth. In this role, you will:

  • Undertake safety activities such as hazard identification, safety risk assessment and assurance.
  • Contribute to studies, analysis and solution development, including digital and data-driven approaches.
  • Work collaboratively and engage with design teams, supporting the integration of safe operation and maintenance considerations into design.
  • Prepare clear, concise and high-quality written deliverables, including reports, technical notes and presentations.
  • Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Support the identification and development of opportunities with existing and new clients.
  • Contribute to the preparation of high-quality bids and proposals.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Support market engagement activities and contribute to a positive team culture and development of colleagues.

About you

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply structured approaches to safety and risk challenges.
  • Understanding and application of the Common Safety Method.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients and stakeholders.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to working within multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable

  • Experience applying Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) GG104 requirements for Safety Risk Assessment.
  • Experience of Safety Risk Management or Safety Governance processes.
  • Experience within transportation or intelligent mobility sectors.
  • Exposure to supporting bids, proposals or client-facing activities.
  • Familiarity with UK transport clients (e.g. National Highways, Department for Transport, local authorities).

Security clearance

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
