AtkinsRéalis’ Engineering and Design Practice is looking for a motivated Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join our team and further develop their career in a collaborative, high-performing environment. We have openings in our London office offering the opportunity to join a national delivery team and work with designers across the UK and internationally through our Global Technology Centre.
This opportunity involves working as part of a national practice of Building Design professionals, delivering engineering design solutions to clients across the UK. The role offers exposure to a broad range of sectors, with experience in Commercial, Defence, Energy, Education and Healthcare particularly beneficial. The role offers opportunities for client interaction while also being involved in the day-to-day design and delivery of projects.

Your role can be varied depending on projects and, although not limited, duties are likely to include:
- Undertake the design and specification of all mechanical building services systems, from concept through to detailed design, including heating, cooling, ventilation and public health systems.
- Carry out detailed calculations using industry-standard software tools, including Excel, IES, Hevacomp and MEPworx.
- Prepare technical specifications, design reports and presentations to support effective project delivery.
- Collaborate with our BIM team to develop models and drawings, with a working understanding of Revit.
- Represent AtkinsRéalis at meetings with clients and other professionals.
- Carry out condition surveys, inspections, and support the monitoring of installation and commissioning activities.
- Manage your assigned workload and deliver work to a high standard, within agreed deadlines and budgets.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing and support less experienced team members where appropriate.
About you:
- Relevant experience in Mechanical Building Services Engineering, with a strong interest in design excellence and delivering high-quality sustainable building design solutions.
- A proactive and enquiring approach, with an interest in exploring new ideas, digital tools and ways of working that improve design quality and project outcomes.
- Degree qualified, or equivalent qualification, in Building Services Engineering / Mechanical Engineering, or related subjects.
- Working towards Chartered Membership of CIBSE, IMechE, or an equivalent professional body, with a clear interest in continued professional development.
- Experience of industry-standard software and tools such as IES, Hevacomp, StabiCAD, Revit, NBS and Microsoft packages.
- Knowledge of thermal modelling for compliance and design optimisation would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of UK technical standards and codes of practice.
- Familiar with energy reduction methods and approaches to decarbonising new and existing buildings.
- Awareness of energy and carbon-related data capture and analytics, with an interest in improving building performance and supporting low-carbon design.
- Experience of designing for measurement and verification, including commissioning and post-installation evaluation of performance.
