We are looking for a person with practical experience of environmental coordination, assessment and management to join our team in London.
Key clients in this region include Transport for London, Network Rail, the Environment Agency, National Highways, Anglian Water, Thames Water, South East Water, and the Greater London Authority and London Boroughs.

You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, spearhead and coordinate Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and related deliverables, work closely with clients, develop new areas of business and line manage and mentor colleagues in the team.
You'll join one of the UK's leading planning consultancies at the forefront of thought leadership in sustainable infrastructure and development, from Net Zero to ESG, Biodiversity Net Gain and digital transformation.
Progress with your career interests across Energy and Water companies, Environment Agency, National Highways, Homes England, High Speed 2, Ministry of Defence, DLUHC, Network Rail, Transport for London, Transport for the North, West of England Combined Authority and the GLA and many others such as LEPs, local authorities and private developers.

Your role
- Acting as Planning Lead on projects across a range of markets and sectors.
- Lead in bid preparation, tender submissions and framework responses.
- Acting as lead consultant for multi-disciplinary projects and taking responsibility for project management and project delivery.
- Providing support to junior colleagues and the Planning team leaders.
- Works in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment with colleagues in environmental, engineering and design disciplines across the wider Atkins Réalis (UK and international).
- Engage with market and client leads to support business growth and development opportunities.
- Leading on the coordination and delivery of environmental work being undertaken by multi‑disciplinary teams including EIA, options appraisals and environmental management.
- Supporting team leaders and practice management with the commercial and resource management of projects, bids and local teams.
- Champion high standards of technical delivery within multidisciplinary engineering projects, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental outcomes.
- Collate and edit information from a range of sources to provide clear, well written reports.
- Competently undertake own work to an excellent standard, and review the work of others, on time and to budget.
- Able to manage clients' needs in a skilled, professional manner.
- Undertake Continual Professional Development (CPD) in accordance with requirements of chosen professional institute.
About you
- A relevant Planning degree and either RTPI membership is desirable.
- Chartered experience and working major infrastructure projects.
- Experience in leading large scale TCPA application with a successful track record for delivery.
- Experience in holding lead roles within a DCO, Hybrid Bill, Highways Act or TWAO.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the EIA process and environmental technical expertise.
- Experience and knowledge in Strategic Planning and Planning policy.
- Work under pressure, with excellent time management and success in meeting tight deadlines. Manage and work on multiple assignments delivering outputs on time and within budget.
- Work well as part of multi-disciplinary teams with the confidence to input effectively as an individual across a range of projects, consenting and strategic planning, and a range of geographies.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and the aptitude to rationally explain, explore and discuss planning issues.
- Experience in commercial coordination and project management.
- Flexibly apply knowledge and experience to a wide variety of planning-related tasks.
- Experience in work winning and supporting market growth.
- Demonstrable ability to develop client relationships.
- Good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate issues and ideas effectively.
- Be flexible, adaptable and prepared to take on new challenges and work from other Atkins Réalis or client office locations.
