Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, the Senior Commercial Accountant will take ownership of monthly reporting, financial governance, and performance analysis for a key division. You'll manage the transactional finance and management accounting functions while partnering with operational leaders to drive efficiency, accountability, and results.
Responsibilities
- Leading month-end close and producing accurate, timely management reporting
- Delivering P&L and balance sheet analysis with commentary and variance insight
- Managing and developing a small finance team, providing coaching and guidance
- Partnering with operational leaders to challenge and support decision-making
- Overseeing accounts payable, receivable, and VAT returns
- Maintaining strong controls and governance to support growth
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning alongside FP&A
- Leading process improvements and optimising use of finance systems
- Assisting with acquisitions, integrations, and year-end audit preparation
- Lead a visible, hands-on position within a finance function evolving to support a growing organisation with operational control and commercial exposure
Qualifications
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
- Post-qualification experience in a similar financial management or business partnering role
- Strong technical understanding of financial reporting standards
- Proven experience managing month-end and financial control processes
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- A proactive, hands-on approach with the confidence to challenge constructively
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with modern accounting systems (e.g. Sage Intacct)
- Experience within a social care or services-based environment (desirable)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to translate financial data for non-finance stakeholders
