As a Hydroecologist, you can expect to support delivery of river and wetland hydroecological investigations and the restoration and enhancement of aquatic systems. Your work will produce tangible improvements within river catchments throughout the UK and overseas. The role offers opportunities to develop within our growing portfolio of UK water resource investigations, infrastructure planning and development support, and habitat management and design projects. The team collaborates with aquatic ecology, water resource specialists, engineering design and planning colleagues to support career development. The position is open for Birmingham, Bristol, Derby, Epsom, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Oxford or Peterborough offices.
Responsibilities
- Support water resource investigations through the delivery of hydroecological assessments and develop the application of habitat and biological response models to hydroecological investigation for key water company and regulatory clients.
- Support the development and application of emerging approaches to hydroecological modelling and the technical development of staff within the aquatic ecology team.
- Provide ecological input to projects including field surveys and technical reporting; assist on delivery of catchment science projects focusing on river and wetland function, habitat design, management and restoration, hydroecology, ecological impact assessment, Water Framework Directive compliance and Biodiversity Net Gain.
- Maintain excellent relationships with environmental scientists, engineers and planning consultants throughout AtkinsRéalis to provide a consistent and integrated service to clients.
- Support the team with winning work from internal and external clients.
- Develop technical skills through Continuing Professional Development.
Qualifications
- A degree in a relevant discipline is essential; a post-graduate qualification (with focus on hydroecology and/or catchment management) is desirable.
- Experience of undertaking hydroecology and freshwater ecology assessments focused on freshwater aquatic habitats and species.
- Willingness to work towards chartership if not already chartered, with support from chartered colleagues within AtkinsRéalis.
- Be highly numerate, literate, and familiar with IT and software relevant to hydroecological tasks.
- Be highly motivated, proactive and focused on technical excellence; skilled at collaborative working with good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Maintain a flexible, hands-on, proactive approach; able to work independently and as part of a wider team in a commercial environment.
