AtkinsRéalis is seeking a pro-active and enthusiastic Geo-Environmental Consultant to join our award-winning Contaminated Land & Hydrogeology team within the Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice. Based in either Glasgow or Edinburgh (with flexible hybrid working), you will be part of an award-winning group of contaminated land experts delivering innovative brownfield solutions to major UK infrastructure projects, across the transportation, energy, buildings and places and water markets. Your role includes:

  • Organisation, collation and assessment of desk-based information as part of Phase 1 Contaminated Land Desk Studies.
  • Design of Phase 2 site investigations, including organising, supervising and undertaking environmental / geo-environmental site investigation and monitoring scopes.
  • Regular site-based work such as contractor supervision, soil sampling and logging, environmental monitoring/sampling and supporting others on site.
  • Compliance with Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, including preparation of H&S Plans for site investigation and managing health and safety on site.
  • Preparation and delivery of factual and interpretative reporting, including digital data management, development of conceptual site models, undertaking qualitative and quantitative risk assessments for human health and the water environment, hydrogeological modelling and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).
  • Support with remediation design, implementation and verification.
  • Management of own work including supporting senior management to ensure projects are delivered on-time, on budget and to quality and client expectations.

About you:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. geology, geography, hydrogeology, chemistry, earth sciences, environmental science).
  • Working towards Chartered Membership of relevant professional body.
  • Relevant post-graduate experience (ideally within a consultancy environment), with a track record in delivering work on-time, on budget and to quality and client expectations.
  • Demonstrable understanding of land contamination/brownfield land issues including understanding of relevant codes of practice and industry standards.
  • Experience in relevant site-based work including undertaking soil and rock logging, soil/gas/vapour/leachate/groundwater and surface water monitoring/sampling and providing supervision and management of contractors undertaking trial pitting and drilling activities on brownfield sites.
  • Familiarity with discharging Principal Contractor duties in accordance with CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Good organisational skills and an appetite for undertaking outdoor work in all weathers (alongside a variety of desk-based tasks) are essential.
  • Keen team player keen to learn and make a difference.
  • Willingness to travel and undertake site-based work across the UK.
  • Ideally you will have experience in delivering site-based work on safety critical sites such as nuclear or electricity infrastructure distribution/transmission sites; however, further training can be provided as required.
  • Additional specialist skills in hydrogeological modelling, EIA, environmental permitting, waste and materials management are particularly welcomed.
  • Experience in working with geospatial data (GIS) using software such as QGIS and/or ArcGIS.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
