We have an opportunity for a Senior Tunnel Ventilation Engineer located in our Epsom office, to support our impressive portfolio of projects both in the UK and internationally. We need to increase our team to meet the growing demands from our clients and are looking for someone with the drive and enthusiasm to embrace the future.
Your role:
- Support winning and delivery of tunnel M&E ventilation projects.
- Strengthen and expand our presence in the UK Rail and Road sector.
- Act as a Technical Authority and client-facing engineer.
- Contribute to strategic growth, bids, and industry engagement.
Project & Technical Delivery:
- Lead/support the design and assessment of tunnel ventilation systems.
- Carry out 1D modelling (SES / IDA), CFD studies, risk assessment.
- Deliver fire and life safety assessments and ventilation strategies.
- Support commissioning, testing and asset performance reviews.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports and client deliverables.
Business Growth & Client Engagement:
- Support actively on growing the UK and International market.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships in the UK rail sector.
- Identify opportunities in rail ventilation and fire life safety projects.
- Support bid preparation and technical proposals.
- Represent the business in meetings, workshops, and industry events.
Internal Capability Development:
- Support mentoring of junior engineers.
- Contribute to improving processes, tools, methods, and best practice.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on growth strategy.
About you:
- Strong client relation with UK Rail tunnel operators.
- Strong experience in tunnel ventilation design and asset management projects.
- Proven use/knowledge of SES (rail ventilation modelling), IDA Tunnel (road / metro modelling) and CFD tools (e.g. FDS, Pyrosim, Pathfinder).
- Good understanding of Fire dynamics, smoke control, and ventilation principles.
- Relevant standards (e.g. NFPA, PIARC, UK guidance).
- Experience in Project delivery across design / feasibility stages, Client interaction and coordination.
- Established network within UK rail organisations (e.g. Network Rail, TfL, consultants).
- Demonstrated contribution to business development or winning work.
- Ability to operate with limited supervision and support senior leadership.
- Opportunity to help shape and grow a specialist capability within a leading consultancy.
- Exposure to major UK and international tunnel projects.
