If you have a keen interest in the complex challenges the energy sector and achieving Net Zero has to offer, you could be working with a variety of clients as a Senior Power System Studies Engineer within our Energy Networks team based from Epsom, Leeds, Birmingham, or Glasgow.
Your role
- In depth knowledge of conducting simulations and analytical studies for Offshore Wind projects, load and generation interconnection, integration of renewables.
- Able to prepare simulation study models and carry out power system studies including but not limited to.
Grid compliance studies for Offshore Wind projects, Solar, BESS and Hybrid projects.
Steady state and Dynamic power flow analysis.
- Fault Ride Through studies. Short circuit calculation.
- Power quality analysis.
Electro Magnetic Transient Analysis (EMTP) such as Switching and Lightning transient studies, Energization studies etc.
Dynamic simulation of networks involving HVDC, FACTS and inverter-based generation.
The Candidate should be able to carry out the following
- Grid Code compliance (UK Grid code/EREC).
- Load Flow and Voltage regulation study.
- Short Circuit study.
- Protection study.
- Harmonics study.
- RMS Dynamic Stability (in Power Factory and PSS/E) – Fault Ride-Through (FRT) – Dynamic Voltage support, Active Power Frequency response – Dynamic Reactive Power control.
- Switching Transients and Insulation Coordination.
- Transient Fast Converter Dynamics and Control Interactions.
- Special System Transient Events – Fault Ride-Through (FRT) – Black Start and Energization.
- Analyse study results and recommend solutions and able to discuss with our Clients.
- Prepare study reports and other technical documentation.
- Respond to request for proposals (RFP) by preparing proposals and estimation of man-hours.
- Mentoring junior staffs and able to provide training on subject of expertise.
- Deliver training courses on subject of expertise.
- Lead and carry out consulting, research and development study projects.
- Conceptualization ability, interpersonal communication and organizational skills are a must, including the capability to explain complex technical issues to decision-makers and project teams.
- The Candidate must have good oral and written communication skills, be willing to travel, and work successfully in a customer focused, project-oriented environment.
About you
- Masters / bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, with relevant industrial experience.
- Chartered Engineer – IET Member – Or in an accredited scheme to become Chartered Engineer
- Comprehensive experience in studies for Offshore Wind projects at Pre-FEED, FEED and Detailed Design stages, with at least 4 years dedicated to major offshore wind project.
- Expertise in system study software such as PSCAD, DIg SILENT Power Factory, including the development of software scrips.
Desirable Requirements
- Knowledge of PSSE, MATLAB / Simulink and any other system study software.
- Competency in Python coding.
- Experience of working on Traction simulation studies.
