The AtkinsRéalis’ Traffic Control Systems (TCS) team work across the transport sector helping our clients navigate a rapidly changing world, linking current Traffic Signals and Intelligent Transport Systems with future-focused technology opportunities. The team undertake a variety of design, implementation, consultancy and advisory projects to a broad set of UK and international clients in the transport sector, including the Department for Transport, National Highways, and UK local authorities.
The team sits within the Intelligent Transport & Infrastructure (ITI) practice, which is part of AtkinsRéalis' UK Transportation business and is the home of our transport technology, asset management, and digital/data capabilities, delivering joined up, data driven solutions that improve transport network performance and outcomes for clients and communities. ITI comprises staff from a range of disciplines facing into a range of clients, with approximately 15 TCS staff providing market leading capability in traffic signals, Urban Traffic Control (UTC) and operations. TCS, along with the wider IMST practice, blend projects utilising traffic signals, motorway control systems, toll road systems and smart ticketing with thinking and advice on emerging trends and growing areas such as digital highways, Mobility-as-a-Service, Connected Vehicles and AI.
As an Assistant Traffic Control Systems Engineer, you will form a key part in our dynamic team, delivering high-quality world class projects to Clients across the UK. You will help to improve people's journeys, promote safety and work towards a more healthy and sustainable environment, as well as building the future of traffic control, transport technology and mobility.
Key areas of responsibility will include:
- Undertaking design of Traffic Signal Installations in 2D and 3D using AutoCAD.
- Providing solutions to design problems.
- Preparation of engineering calculations and engineering drawings.
- Site visits to undertake surveys and support installation and optimisation.
- Testing and commissioning of equipment.
- Supporting the administration of projects.
- Writing of technical notes, project reports and other design related deliverables for clients.
- Working with senior staff to report on project progress.
You’ll join a collaborative team of experienced engineers, working alongside colleagues with extensive industry knowledge and hands-on technical expertise. You’ll receive structured mentorship, day-to-day guidance on live projects and support to build your confidence and capability, ensuring a strong foundation for your career progression in Traffic Control Systems. We will actively identify opportunities for you to expand your skills, through exposure to new technologies, involvement on varied projects, working with multi-disciplinary teams, and targeted learning and development.
Based from either Epsom or Bristol, this role offers hybrid working. There may be some developing of schemes both across the UK and overseas and therefore it could necessitate the need for short term travel.
