AtkinsRéalis Building Design Practice is looking to appoint a Fire Engineer to develop their career within a forward‑thinking multi‑sector practice. The role will involve working as part of a national practice of design professionals delivering fire engineering design solutions to clients across a wide variety of sectors including Cities & Development, Commercial, Energy, Residential and Transportation. The position is based primarily in Derby and London, with flexibility to work from Bristol, Epsom, Glasgow, London, or Derby.
Responsibilities
- Work in a range of sectors, from residential buildings through rail transportation or new energy facilities.
- Manage multiple engineering projects from inception through delivery, supporting fire safety standards and codes.
- Support delivery of project work within time and cost budgets.
- Keep up to date with regulations and legislation.
- Develop fire engineering solutions on projects and ensure the fire engineering strategy is delivered.
- Assess fire‑related risks in projects and work collaboratively to mitigate where possible.
- Review and comment on the quality of fire safety‑related installations.
- Undertake tenders for new work.
- Prepare reports, take part in design team meetings, and liaise with client representatives as required.
Qualifications
- Engineering degree, preferably in fire engineering, or a postgraduate qualification in fire engineering. Candidates with other relevant backgrounds are considered.
- Strong record of successfully delivering fire safety projects. Experience in other sectors strongly considered.
- Experience with fire standards including BS 9999, NFPA 130, BS 9992, EN 45545.
- Fire modelling experience is beneficial.
- Experience outside the building sector is an advantage.
- Ability to work towards Chartered Fire Engineer status.
- Flexible approach to the working environment and willingness to travel is a positive advantage.
- Good commercial awareness and a customer‑focused mindset.
- Ability to collate information and write clear, structured reports.
