Atkins Réalis is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Geo‑Environmental Consultant to join our award‑winning Contaminated Land & Hydrogeology team within the Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice.
The role is based in our Bristol office (other locations may also be available) with flexible hybrid working.
Role Overview
The consultant will deliver innovative brownfield solutions to major UK infrastructure projects across the transportation, energy, buildings and places, and water markets.
You will work alongside industry leaders on high‑profile UK and international projects and grow your career in a supportive, collaborative, multi‑disciplinary environment.
Responsibilities
- Organise, collate and assess desk‑based information as part of Phase 1 Contaminated Land Desk Studies.
- Design Phase 2 site investigations, supervising and undertaking environmental/geo‑environmental site investigation and monitoring scopes, including contractor supervision, soil sampling, logging and environmental monitoring.
- Comply with Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, prepare H&S Plans, and manage health and safety on site.
- Prepare and deliver factual and interpretative reporting, including digital data management, conceptual site models, qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, hydrogeological modelling and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).
- Support remediation design, implementation and verification.
- Develop competence and maintain CPD, with business support for training and development needs.
- Manage own work and support senior management to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to client expectations.
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science subject (e. g., geology, geography, hydrogeology, chemistry, earth sciences, environmental science).
- Working towards Chartered Membership of a relevant professional body.
- Relevant postgraduate experience, ideally within a consultancy environment, with a track record of delivering work on time, on budget and to quality and client expectations.
- Demonstrable understanding of land contamination/brownfield land issues, including relevant codes of practice and industry standards.
- Experience in soil and rock logging, soil/gas/vapour/leachate/groundwater and surface water monitoring/sampling, and supervising contractors on brownfield sites.
- Familiarity with Principal Contractor duties under CDM Regulations 2015.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to undertake outdoor work in all weathers, alongside desk‑based tasks.
- Team player, keen to learn and make a difference.
- Willingness to travel and undertake site‑based work across the UK.
- Experience on active gas and electricity infrastructure distribution/transmission sites; further training can be provided.
- Specialist skills in hydrogeological modelling, EIA, environmental permitting, waste and materials management are welcomed.
- Experience with geospatial data (GIS) using QGIS and/or Arc GIS.
