We're proud to say it's thanks to our people's diversity of thought, expertise and knowledge. And when you join us, you'll be a part of this genuinely collaborative environment, where everyone's voice is valued and treated equally. We're passionate about what we do, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. Simply put, this is a great place to be. So, when it comes to your life outside of work, ask us about our flexible and remote working policies designed to help you get the most out of life. Additionally, if you’ve taken time away from your career and are ready to return, we offer a range of supportive opportunities designed to help you confidently step back into the workplace and continue your professional journey.

As a Systems Engineer in our Advanced Engineering Delivery & Consultancy (AEDC) practice, you’ll play a hands‑on role in programmes that protect the UK and help secure its future. You’ll contribute to complex, high‑profile projects, working alongside experienced engineers in collaborative, supportive teams. This role is ideal if you enjoy solving challenging technical problems, learning from others, and applying systems thinking in real‑world environments. You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with leading clients on programmes delivered in some of the UK’s most secure and strategically important locations – including Aldermaston, Barrow‑in‑Furness, Faslane and Devonport – gaining exposure and experience that will support your professional development.

In this role, you won’t be limited to a single task or phase of the lifecycle. You’ll gain genuine variety, contributing to work from early concept development through to integration and delivery. Your projects may span land, sea, air, and Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) domains, giving you exposure to a broad range of engineering challenges. You’ll work as part of multi‑disciplinary teams, supporting technical decision‑making and helping ensure system elements come together coherently. You will typically work on the definition and management of requirements, underpinned by a Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach. This will enable you to support design, analysis and verification activities using modern, digital engineering methods as you continue to build your capability and experience.

You’ll work closely with stakeholders at every level, from engineers to senior leaders, influencing outcomes and shaping solutions that make a real difference. And because these programmes are critical to national security, you’ll know that your contribution has impact far beyond the office.

Your role

  • Apply recognised systems engineering processes, such as ISO 15288, across one or more phases of the engineering lifecycle, with support from senior colleagues.
  • Use Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches and tools (e.g. Sparx EA, Cameo) to support system design activities, applying modelling languages such as UML/SysML and relevant architectural views.
  • Support requirements engineering activities, helping to ensure requirements are clear, traceable, and linked to verification and validation activities.
  • Contribute to the application of appropriate engineering lifecycles in line with project needs and governance.
  • Work within project teams using a range of development and delivery methodologies, contributing to planning and delivery activities.
  • Develop an understanding of the MOD acquisition framework and apply Knowledge in Defence (KiD) proportionately under guidance.
  • Communicate technical information clearly within the team and contribute to discussions with non‑engineers, building effective working relationships.

About you

  • Degree qualified (Level 6 or above) in a relevant STEM subject or possess equivalent depth of experience in an engineering field.
  • Working towards professional recognition with an appropriate institution, such as CEng or CSEP.
  • Basic knowledge of MBSE approaches and tools (e.g., Sparx EA, Cameo).
  • Basic knowledge of modelling languages and architecture frameworks, including UML/SysML, ArchiMate, TOGAF, and MODAF.
  • An understanding of engineering lifecycles, including their selection, tailoring, and implementation.
  • An understanding of the wider aspects of delivery, such as commercial, finance and planning.
  • Ability to apply systems engineering processes (e.g., ISO 15288:2023) across the lifecycle.
  • Proven track record in managing projects and teams across various development methods.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships.
  • Ability to understand, simplify, and explain subject matter to non-engineers and senior stakeholders.
