AtkinsRéalis delivers integrated, mission‑critical solutions that help clients plan, design, commission and operate high‑performance data centres and AI facilities. We combine deep electrical engineering expertise with digital delivery and multi‑disciplinary collaboration to achieve efficient, resilient and sustainable outcomes.
You will lead electrical engineering excellence across our mission‑critical portfolio—setting best practice, assuring resilient power strategies, and working with sector leadership on forward‑looking thought leadership (AI facilities, grid resilience, MMC, digital delivery, commissioning and power efficiency). This is a collaborative leadership role, not a solitary one.
Your role:
- Build trusted relationships with DC/AI electrical and operations teams; represent AtkinsRéalis at national forums and key client engagements; provide senior stakeholders with clear, actionable insights and concise reporting on technical, commercial and market performance.
- Identify, shape and support new opportunities and bids using outcome‑focused electrical narratives; track emerging trends including AI power densities, liquid cooling, grid constraints, energy storage, alternative fuels and resilience analytics.
- Define, own and maintain electrical design standards, guides and templates; ensure compliance with UK, Irish and international regulations; promote CPD, lessons learned and continuous improvement.
- Act as the national point of contact for mission‑critical electrical technical support, mentoring engineers and building long‑term electrical capability.
- Lead assurance of grid connections, utility interfaces, HV/LV architectures, redundancy strategies (N, N+1, 2N, 2N+1), UPS, energy storage, power quality, generation, fuel strategies, earthing, lightning protection and protection coordination.
- Lead BIM‑enabled electrical delivery by defining model strategies and information requirements; coordinate and review Revit models; manage clash detection and issue workflows through Revizto and the CDE.
- Collaborate with mechanical, CFD, ICT, BEMS, fire, structural and other disciplines to deliver fully coordinated, construction‑ready designs; embed a “one team” ethos and chair integrated reviews to resolve interface risks early.
- Embed sustainability and performance objectives into electrical design, defining and tracking metrics such as PUE contribution, losses and standby efficiency; support grid‑aware design, renewables, storage and demand‑side response.
- Own electrical scope, budget, spend and programme; forecast and report performance; manage risk, issues and change; plan resources and manage key supply chain partners and strategic OEM and utility relationships.
- Define commissioning philosophies, integrated test plans and energisation strategies; ensure alignment of design intent, OPR and IST to de‑risk handover and accelerate time to operate.
About you:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng or equivalent) preferred.
- Extensive experience delivering electrical systems for mission critical / data centre projects.
- Experience on large, complex programmes (£100m+) advantageous.
- Deep understanding of data centre electrical systems, power resilience, IT load integration, and the coordination of ICT, BEMS, mechanical and CSA inputs into robust electrical solutions.
- Strong working proficiency in Revit and Revizto, with a solid grasp of BIM processes including EIR/AIR, BEP, LOD/LOI, model federation and disciplined use of the CDE.
- Confident in defining power strategies, managing grid interfaces and delivering efficient, resilient outcomes aligned with energy performance objectives.
- Commercially astute with strengths in budget control, forecasting, resource planning and change management; an inclusive leader with excellent written and verbal communication, able to present credibly at national forums and conferences.
- Well-connected within the mission critical electrical sector, actively mentoring others and pragmatically applying innovation in digital engineering, AI enabled power management, MMC and commissioning analytics to improve delivery outcomes.
