AtkinsRéalis is one of the UK's leading engineering and consultancy organisations, supporting complex programmes across Defence, Aerospace, Nuclear and other highly regulated sectors. As demand for our services grows, we are looking for Environmental Consultants to help deliver sustainable solutions across UK Defence programmes. Previous experience of implementing environmental management and sustainability policy in industry or the Defence sector is not essential but would be beneficial.

As an Environmental Consultant you will be part of a team developing and implementing environmental management and sustainability solutions for a variety of Defence acquisition teams across Air, Land and Maritime. You will also help clients apply more efficient, digital approaches to environmental management processes and outputs, enabling greater focus on strategic thinking and decision making.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing Defence policy and processes to assess the potential environmental impact of projects and operations.
  • Developing environmental arguments to demonstrate compliance with relevant legislation and Defence Regulations.
  • Preparing detailed technical reports and presenting the findings of environmental work to both internal and external customers.
  • Contributing to the development of the environmental capability.
  • Building successful working relationships with team members, key customers and stakeholders that improve the value of our environmental and sustainability services.
  • Being passionate about developing your skills and knowledge at all stages of your career.

We are looking for self-motivated and enthusiastic Environmental and Sustainability Consultants who have a willingness to learn and develop new skills. You can apply sound environmental and sustainability judgement, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Essential skills and experience:

  • BEng or BSc (Hons) in an Environmental Discipline or equivalent environmental experience.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Environmental Management Systems.
  • Strong communication and relationship development skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to travel throughout the UK.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience of conducting environmental impact studies / risk assessments and producing associated reports and documentation.
  • Experience of creating and maintaining environmental management systems.
  • Project management skills.
  • Environmental-related MSc.
  • Membership of relevant professional body such as ISEP.
  • Some experience of working within Defence, aerospace, or other relevant sectors.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
