The role of the Project Engineer Digital Solutions is always evolving. You’ll help the range of projects operating within the Complex Projects Business make decisions on how best to produce, manage and share digital information to optimise delivery, enhance quality, avoid errors and ultimately exceed Client requirements. You’ll also provide detailed advice and support to our teams around how changing technologies might help enhance and streamline their individual delivery processes. You will actively contribute to the Information Management Plan and Digital Delivery more widely and you’ll work with the team to ensure that they are adhered to throughout the phases of the project lifecycle, across the sectors.

As a Digital Engineering lead with our teams, you’ll be visible and accessible to them, with an ability to work effectively with our site project teams.

Your role

  • Engage with project stakeholders to identify, review, challenge and define Digital Engineering and Information Management requirements.
  • Produce and maintain key BIM and Information Management deliverables, including the BIM Execution Plan, Responsibility Matrix and Master Information Delivery Plan.
  • Establish and manage project processes to support the effective delivery, exchange and use of graphical and non-graphical design information.
  • Support the integration of BIM and digital processes into post-design, construction, testing, interface and handover phases.
  • Work collaboratively with discipline leads, subject matter experts and supply chain partners to implement practical, cost-effective digital delivery approaches.
  • Support and upskill project teams and supply chain partners in the effective use of the Common Data Environment and wider digital tools.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance and direction to post-design teams and project digital champions.
  • Lead quality assurance, auditing, lessons learned and continuous improvement activities relating to digital tools, information management and CDE processes.
  • Promote the use of graphical deliverables, clash detection, 4D sequencing and other digital outputs to improve construction planning, coordination and decision-making.
  • Champion digitisation across the project, promoting digital behaviours, best practice, innovation and the development of high-performing digital teams.

About you

  • Degree level or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant discipline.
  • Member of a professional institution desirable.
  • Complimentary or additional qualifications may include Data Systems, Data Analytics, BIM Certification and Security.
  • Knowledge of engineering design, delivery and construction within a primary Rail, Transportation and wider infrastructure sector.
  • Experience of quality assurance solutions and tools.
  • Experience of construction and delivery digital solutions.
  • Delivery of BIM and Digital Engineering systems and processes within Medium and Major Projects contexts.
  • A thorough understanding of data, information management, BIM agendas within the UK and the standards and documents that underpin its implementation within the engineering industry.
  • Self-motivated and keen to learn across a range of technical subjects and engineering disciplines.
  • Programming or application development experience may be advantageous.
  • Practical experience delivering 4D/5D models desirable.
  • Experience with VR/AR applications desirable.
  • Experience with design authoring tools such as MicroStation.
  • Experience with BIM Authoring tools such as Open Rail Designer.
  • Experience with 3D review tools such as Bentley iTwin.
  • Ability to engage with staff at all levels, to provide learning and drive adoption of Digitisation process, to ensure sustainable transformation.
