Are you ready to take up a vital role in shaping some of our exciting projects? Join our talented Highways and Asset Services team based in Birmingham, Bristol or Cardiff working on our Herefordshire Contract. We are looking to build upon our success and expand our successful team and are seeking Engineers to lead projects of varying sizes & disciplines.
The successful candidate will be pivotal in implementing ideas that maintain and enhance the local network through working closely within Herefordshire Council and developing and delivering schemes. The works will include new schemes as well as major planned maintenance projects including active travel, carriageway, footways, drainage and safety schemes. You will be part of the collaborative design teams based in our hub offices delivering for Herefordshire. You will feel a great sense of pride in shaping high‑quality designs across new build, renewal, maintenance, and assessment works and working with our client and their partners to have a positive and sustainable impact on the network.
Whilst we offer flexible working policies, this role would require you to be based in our client’s office in Hereford a minimum of 2 days per week.
Your role:
- Prepare designs and specifications in accordance with local standards and Design Manual Roads Bridges (DMRB).
- Develop designs using AutoCAD, Civil3D models (as and where applicable).
- Deliver work packages with scope to move up to managing schemes and multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Provide support to Project Managers within the design team in planning, programming, technical input to the pricing of project briefs, proposals, deliverables and cost estimation.
- Be accountable for checking, certifying, and authorising for issue: designs, documents, approvals, and reports.
- Manage graduate engineers and technicians to deliver work packages - coordinating engineering resources.
- Work collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders as necessary to deliver schemes/projects.
- Mentor and upskill more junior staff helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
- Be responsible for the preparation of feasibility studies, technical reports, detailed designs and production of contract documents across a variety of projects.
- Help seek innovative solutions in achieving best value in delivering our services.
- Provide technical support and leadership where required.
About you:
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a degree in a related discipline and practical experience of Civil Engineering or Structures projects.
- Proven capability and knowledge in highway or structures engineering design (experience in highway drainage design will be an advantage).
- Knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, standards and procedures including the application of departures from standard.
- Be aware of the philosophy and practice of Health & Safety in civil engineering design and construction.
- The ability to work under your own initiative and to seek advice when necessary.
