AtkinsRéalis is looking to appoint an Assistant Structural Engineer to join our growing Birmingham Building Structures team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career structural engineer to develop their technical capability, contribute to a strong regional pipeline of multidisciplinary projects, and support the continued growth of our Midlands Building Structures offering.
AtkinsRéalis Buildings and Places provides multidisciplinary engineering and advisory services and integrated solutions across a wide range of projects relating to buildings and infrastructure. Drawing upon a diverse skill set and a proven track record of delivery we are playing a leading role in some of the world’s most challenging and exciting engineering projects across sectors including Education, Commercial, Residential, Transportation, Defence and Energy. The role will involve a mix of new-build, refurbishment, survey and assessment work across public and private sector projects.
AtkinsRéalis develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents. We encourage participation in all forms of training and have an active programme of in-house as well as external training for all of our engineers. You will be supported in your progression towards professional qualification with ICE or IStructE through mentoring, technical development, structured objectives and access to internal and external training.
You will join a supportive and ambitious team committed to technical excellence, professional development and collaborative working. With a strong and growing pipeline of projects, you will have the opportunity to gain experience across design, survey, assessment and refurbishment work while being supported towards chartership.
Your role includes:
- Undertaking structural engineering analysis and design under the supervision of a senior engineer.
- Production of structural engineering calculations to both Eurocodes and British Standards.
- Drafting structural specifications.
- Working with Technicians to produce relevant structural information.
- Supporting multidisciplinary coordination with architects, MEP engineers, civils teams and other project disciplines.
- Attending site visits and assisting with the preparation of inspection and survey reports.
- Contributing to design reports, technical notes and project deliverables.
- Developing technical judgement through regular review and guidance from senior engineers.
We are looking for someone with most of the following experience and attributes:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (typically 2:1 or above).
- Post-graduate experience in building structures.
- Working to achieve Chartered Engineer status having commenced the core objectives.
- Experience in the design of structures using the conventional engineering materials including steel and concrete, to both British Standards and Eurocodes.
- Experience in the design of shallow foundations and deep foundations for ordinary building structures.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Commercial awareness.
- Good communication skills, verbal and written (for report writing purposes).
- Familiar with BIM-enabled project delivery and the use of digital engineering tools including AutoCAD, Revit and structural analysis software such as Tekla Structural Designer.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-discipline team.
