AtkinsRéalis provides drainage design services to Highway, Rail, Private Developer, Energy and Water markets with some of our key clients being HS2, Highways England and Network Rail along with many of the UK’s water companies. Due to a growing workload, we are keen to strengthen our existing teams. We require Senior Drainage Engineers to join our teams operating from across the UK. We are looking for strong collaborators, capable of supporting their local team and delivering on remote projects as part of our national Practice. You will play a key role in designing drainage infrastructure, transportation, and private developer projects, with an emphasis on highway drainage and development drainage including SuDS. Besides delivering the drainage design, you will support the leadership and development of our drainage capability.
Responsibilities:
- Leading drainage design from concept to detailed design and construction, either standalone or as part of larger multidisciplinary schemes.
- Promoting digital solutions in drainage design, including full BIM integration.
- Reviewing drainage designs, models, calculations, and drawings to standards, providing technical assurance.
- Managing drainage design tasks, delivery, programme, and budget.
- Supporting the development of graduates and technicians in drainage.
- Ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and environmental policies.
- Developing stakeholder relationships to support design and consent processes.
- Enhancing drainage design capability within the local team.
- Leading drainage designs and providing technical assurance for designs produced in our Global Design Centre.
- Championing drainage within multidisciplinary projects.
- Mentoring and supporting engineers, graduates, and technicians.
- Contributing to bid preparations, including technical responses and fee proposals.
Requirements:
- Professionally qualified with ICE, CIWEM, or similar.
- Ability to design all aspects of drainage from concept to detailed design.
- Familiarity with hydraulic design software, 3D tools, and BIM.
- Experience in report and specification preparation, data collection, and technical reporting.
- Client-focused with the ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Skilled in managing project scope, budgets, programme, and deliverables.
- Flexible, detail-oriented, proactive, and deadline-driven.
- Supportive of mentoring less experienced team members.
- Strong leadership qualities.
- Experience with private and public sector clients and procurement processes.
