Atkinson Moss Finance have been engaged to support our client with a key appointment as Tax Manager for UK & Australian entities. This opportunity is remote, however there will be a requirement to attend their Diss HQ on occasions (expensed).
Role duties:
- Corporate Tax Compliance: Take responsibility for the preparation and timely submission of UK and Australian corporation tax returns across a diverse portfolio of approximately 50 group entities. This includes overseeing the preparation of capital allowances claims to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- VAT Compliance: Oversee the preparation and submission of VAT returns for UK and Australian operations, ensuring full compliance with local regulations and deadlines.
- International Tax Compliance: Lead the preparation and submission of various international tax filings, including Country-by-Country (CbC) Reporting and Withholding Tax Returns. Support the preparation of Transfer Pricing documentation and undertake related risk assessments.
- Tax Accounting & Reporting: Deliver accurate tax provisioning and disclosures in line with IFRS and FRS 101 for both quarterly and annual financial statements. Oversee the preparation of quarterly tax liability calculations for QIP purposes, ensuring these reconcile accurately with the accounting records.
- Governance & Risk Management: Ensure the Group remains compliant with all relevant UK and Australian tax legislation. Support the Head of Tax in conducting tax risk assessments, developing tax policies, and maintaining the Group’s tax strategy. Take the lead in identifying and implementing process improvements across tax compliance and reporting functions.
- Team Leadership: Manage and develop a team of tax professionals, providing technical guidance, coaching, and performance management. Act as a key point of contact for both the tax and wider finance teams.
- Additional Responsibilities: Support the Head of Tax in delivering a variety of tax-related projects, reliefs, and claims (e.g. RDEC, M&A transactions). Liaise with HMRC, the ATO, external auditors, and other relevant stakeholders. Work collaboratively with colleagues across finance, legal, acquisitions, and operations to advise on tax implications of business initiatives.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- CTA qualified (or equivalent)
- Demonstrable experience as a Tax Manager or in a similar tax advisory role
- Experience preparing tax disclosures under IFRS/FRS 101
- Proficient in Excel and confident handling large data sets
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly to stakeholders
- Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
- Strong problem-solving ability with a proactive approach to tax challenges
Desirable (but not essential):
- Previous in-house tax experience within an industry setting
- Exposure to international tax matters or working within a multinational group
- Experience using AlphaTax software
