As a Principal Engineer in our Transportation team, you will be pivotal in implementing ideas that shape the future of how we move. You will collaborate across new build, renewal, maintenance, and assessment works, from our largest, most high-profile to our more progressive and specialised. Our clients include Department for Infrastructure, National Transport Authority, Highways England and Local Authority councils across the UK and Ireland. With such size, scope and scale, you will have plenty of opportunities to keep yourself challenged.

Your role

  • Providing technical guidance on highway infrastructure projects.
  • Mentoring and coaching team members and taking responsibility for their technical development.
  • Liaising with key clients and discussing design/technical solutions to stakeholders including technical and non-technical clients.
  • Liaising with Practice Managers to ensure that projects are sufficiently resourced.
  • Delegating work to team members, programming deliverables and monitoring progress.
  • Identifying and responding to project commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Supporting the business in work winning including representing the business at networking events, preparing bids and tenders, and establishing, maintaining and developing relationships with existing and prospective internal and external clients.

About you

  • Able to demonstrate experience of developing strong and sustainable relationships with clients, understanding their requirements and aspirations, and working effectively with them to achieve their objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills with proven ability to build and motivate teams working across the practices.
  • A hard-working and flexible individual, who is a team player, reliable, proactive and shows initiative whilst able to keep cool under pressure and when working to often demanding deadlines.
  • A disciplined thinker and analytical, numerate, problem solver who has strategic judgement and the capacity to think complex issues through and develop effective solutions in a timely fashion.
  • A resourceful, articulate and clear communicator who can influence others through the use of sound judgement and good sense; a natural team player.
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently as well as within a larger multi-discipline team in leading and managing packages of work to completion.
  • A high expectation of performance for themselves and other members of the team.
